Gas Technician Certification Required by State Law
Course Description:

The Utah State Legislature passed the Gas Technician Certification law in 2002, which requires that all technicians who get paid to work on gas appliances must prove competency by passing the RMGA certification exam.

The law can be found in Utah Code Annotated Section 58-55-308. Find it on the Internet at: http://le.state.ut.us/~code/TITLE58/htm/58_24013.htm

The certification exam is a 3-hour, 100 question, open book exam that can be taken at any of the Applied Technology Colleges around the State for $85 ($75 for the exam and $10 for the testing center). When you’re ready to take the exam, contact any one of the following Technology Colleges and register to take the exam. Everyone gets one free retake if you don’t pass with an 80 or better.

Listed below are the testing centers that currently offer the RMGA Certification Exam. Also provided is an overview of the areas that are tested on the exam.
